Josh Hamilton Back in the Game

According to Richard Durrett (p.n.d) Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton is back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners, playing left field and batting third.  Hamilton first started to feel the effects a week and a half ago.  On that Saturday there was a game against Toronto and Hamilton played through it fine until he hit a walk off homerun in the 13th inning.  Hamilton needed intravenous fluids and some oxygen after the game (R. Durrett, Josh Hamilton back in Rangers Lineup, 2012).  Hamilton did not play on May 28, 2012 this Monday because he had upper respiratory issues.  Hamilton says he feels the same as he did yesterday but will try to play hard on Tuesday.  I think Hamilton will do fine because he seems like he has a lot of confidence and it is always good to have confidence because it boosts your self esteem.

May 16,2012 was not an exciting day for the Hudson Catholic softball team. They took a terrible lost on that day. They lost 20-0 to Paramus Catholic. The pitcher for Paramus Catholic, Samantha Buse threw a perfect game. She did not walk anyone and no one hit off her. She pitched four out of the five innings that were played. Samantha had seven strikeouts (NJ Sports, 2012). Janelle Marchesani, another pitcher for Paramus Catholic, came in the five inning and struck out the sides (NJ Sports, 2012). She completed the perfect game and ended the game. .
Hudson Catholic needs to use this game and learn from it. That game should've never been played like that. The Hudson needs to learn how to play together and more like a team. The young team is going to face more teams like this. They need to take this experience, learn from it and never let it happen again.

More Losses for the Red Soxs

This past week Cody Ross of the Boston Red Soxs fractured a bone in his leg and is expected to miss six to eight weeks.  The injury, which occurred when Ross fouled a pitch off the foot Friday night in Philadelphia, was revealed in an MRI taken in Boston on Monday after initial X-rays were negative (G. Edes, Cody Ross has Broken Bone in Foot, 2012).  The fracture is in the navicular bone and the Red Sox medical staff is confident that Ross will avoid surgery and will receive a second opinion.  Ross will be placed on the disabled  list for Monday’s game along with Carl Crawford, Jacoby Ellsbury, Darnell McDonald, Ryan Kalish and Jason Repko.  Ross will be the fifteenth player this season to sit out.
With Ryan Sweeney will also be unavailable Monday night while the Red Sox awaited results from an MLB-mandated concussion exam (G. Edes, Cody Ross Has Broken Bone in Foot, 2012).  Valentine, manager of the Red Sox, said he elected to keep Sweeney out Monday night after trainers told him the outfielder felt some fatigue after taking swings in the batting cage. Sweeney was diagnosed with what he called a mild concussion after making a diving catch Saturday night in Philadelphia. Afterward, he said he experienced a whiplash-like jolt to his neck (G. Edes, Cody Ross has Broken Bone in Foot, 2012).  I think the Red Soxs will not do good this week because of all the lost of players and everyone is pessimistic about the upcoming games and if you are like this everything will come out the way you think it will.

Hudson Catholic vs. Memorial

The Hudson Catholic girls softball team defeated Memorial High School on May 14,2012. After being down 3-1 in the fourth inning, the Hudson Catholic Hawks took the lead. In the top of the fifth inning the Hawks managed to score 10 runs off Memorial’s senior pitcher Karla Calderon. Monica Cordova, the pitcher for Hudson Catholic, only gave up two hits. The freshman pitcher had nine walks and seven strikeouts (NJ Sports, 2012).

For Hudson Catholic, the sophomore Jessica Hill finished the game with a double, a triple, two RBI’s and three runs scored (NJ Sports, 2012). Naomi Solano, a freshman, also helped the Hawks with a double and two RBI’s (NJ Sports, 2012). The Hudson Catholic Hawks ended the game with a score of 14 and Memorial High School with 6. Hudson was able to take control of the game and defeat Memorial. This was a very important game for both teams. This game decided who would take second place in their league behind McNair High School.

Andy Pettitte

In February there was a shocking return to the Yankees.  The Yankees announced  they have signed 39-year-old Andy Pettitte, the same pitcher who retired before last season saying he lacked the necessary fire, to a minor league deal (Borelli, S., Andy Pettitte coming back to Yankees, 2012).  This Sunday May 13 Andy Pettite played his first game back against Seattle Mariners.  This was day 3 of the Yankees  against the Mariners and the last game against them.  The first two days the Yankees won but on Day 3 when Andy Pettitte came to pitch the Yankees lost 6 to 2.

When Andy Pettitte entered Yankee Stadium that day he got an ovation which I think got him in the mood and realized that he loves what he does.  Andy Pettitte was very excited that he is back.  Andy Pettitte says, “It felt good.  It felt like I never left.  It really did.”(Thomson J., Andy Pettitte encouraged despite lost in first start back, 2012).    Even though the Yankees lost Andy Pettitte’s teammates are very excited that Andy is back and are hoping for a great season for him and their team.

Mark Teixeira was first drafted in 2001 by the Texas Rangers. Playing with the Rangers, Teixeira accomplished many things. He received a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger Award (ESPN, 2012). He received a Gold Glove because he showed that he was the best first basemen in the American League. The Silver Slugger showed that he was the best hitting first basemen in the American League. He also was titled “Player of the Year”.
In 2007 he was traded to the Atlanta Braves, and was traded again in 2008 to the Los Angeles Angels (ESPN, 2012). In 2009 Teixeira agreed to sign with the New York Yankees. Mark Teixeira has been on the New York Yankees ever since. The switch hitter has won two Gold Gloves, a Silver Slugger and a World Series Championship playing with the New York Yankees.

Yankees vs. Royals on May 6, NP

After a 1-5 loss for the Yankees to the Royals on May 5 and the loss of one of the greatest player, Mariano Rivera, the team knew they had to step up their game.  Cano and Rodriguez encourage the other teammates letting them know that every one of them can hit and they CAN win this game.  On May 6 in Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, the New York Yankees had a 10-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals.  The Yankees had 12 hits and the Royals had 9. (ESPN, 2012)
Phil Hughes pitched a great 6 innings for the Yankees only giving up three home runs.   Robinson Cano of the Yankees starts off the game in the third inning with a grand slam with his first swing off the Royals starter Luke Hochevar.  Nick Swisher and Mark Teixeira also in the third inning hit a solo home run for a 7-1 lead.  Alex Rodriguez in the eighth inning hit a 3 run home run bringing the Yankees up to 10 and the Royals to 3.
On day 1 playing against the Royals the Yankees lost 3-4 and on day 2 when they played against the Royals they won 6-2. I think the Yankees thought they will beat the Royals easily on day 3 like the day before but they lost 1-5.  The last day, which was May 6, no one knew whose game this could be and with the encouraging speeches by Rodriguez and Cano they won.  I also think any team can win only by pushing themselves.  New York needed a big win to get them going once again, and today the team got that win (Brandon C., 2012).  Both teams did great but this time the Yankees did better and I think if they keep getting these encouraging speeches by their teammates, the Yankees can go all the way.
