More Losses for the Red Soxs

This past week Cody Ross of the Boston Red Soxs fractured a bone in his leg and is expected to miss six to eight weeks.  The injury, which occurred when Ross fouled a pitch off the foot Friday night in Philadelphia, was revealed in an MRI taken in Boston on Monday after initial X-rays were negative (G. Edes, Cody Ross has Broken Bone in Foot, 2012).  The fracture is in the navicular bone and the Red Sox medical staff is confident that Ross will avoid surgery and will receive a second opinion.  Ross will be placed on the disabled  list for Monday’s game along with Carl Crawford, Jacoby Ellsbury, Darnell McDonald, Ryan Kalish and Jason Repko.  Ross will be the fifteenth player this season to sit out.
With Ryan Sweeney will also be unavailable Monday night while the Red Sox awaited results from an MLB-mandated concussion exam (G. Edes, Cody Ross Has Broken Bone in Foot, 2012).  Valentine, manager of the Red Sox, said he elected to keep Sweeney out Monday night after trainers told him the outfielder felt some fatigue after taking swings in the batting cage. Sweeney was diagnosed with what he called a mild concussion after making a diving catch Saturday night in Philadelphia. Afterward, he said he experienced a whiplash-like jolt to his neck (G. Edes, Cody Ross has Broken Bone in Foot, 2012).  I think the Red Soxs will not do good this week because of all the lost of players and everyone is pessimistic about the upcoming games and if you are like this everything will come out the way you think it will.

  1. I like this post because it has a lot of information about how Cody Ross was injured. I also feel the Red Sox are losing because of how many players were injured and not able to play in the games.

  2. This is a really good post. I like all of the information it included and all of the citations were helpful to me. I also agree with the comment above in saying I feel the Red Socks are losing due to the fact that such a vast number of their players are hurt/injured. Overall I enjoyed reading this article. Good Job!
